There are many factors to consider when planning a service, including religious observations and ceremonies, and the wishes of the deceased.
The most common service options are:
Funeral or memorial service
These services are held in a venue such as a religious building or the premises of the funeral directors. At a funeral service, the coffin is present during the service. At a memorial service, it is not.
Graveside or crematorium service
These services are held in addition to, or in place of, a funeral or memorial service, and are usually attended by close family and friends only.
A personal and meaningful experience
Here are some of the things you may consider when arranging a personal service that is respectful to the deceased and meaningful to their loved ones.
- Placing notices in local newspapers
- Choosing the coffin and urn
- Where the service will take place
- Viewing the deceased at our Chapel of Rest
- Who will officiate at the service (for example, a religious official)
- The service programme – photographs, poems or other personal touches to be included
- Flowers and wreaths, or donations to charity in lieu of these
- Catering at the service (catering facilities are available at the Chapel of Rest)
Thom Kight & Company can assist with all these arrangements, bearing in mind your personal needs.
