REMEMBERING YOUR LOVED ONES

Funeral

We offer a range of professional and bespoke funeral services for your loved one.

Whatever you choose, and wherever you choose to hold it, we can help you create a meaningful service. Talk to us about personal touches like flowers, music, and the funeral programme. We can also arrange for someone to officiate at the service if you wish.

THE FINAL RESTING PLACE

It is up to the family to decide about the final resting place in case no wishes were expressed by the deceased.

ON-SITE MORTUARY

We have an on-site mortuary and qualified staff to take care of the transport and handling of the deceased. We are available day and night to transfer the deceased to our premises.

BURIAL

To create a place of remembrance, a burial at the local or selected cemetery is appropriate. This includes the purchase of a casket, a graveside, paying a burial fee and a headstone.

CREMATION

The final resting place is flexible, either in line with the deceased’s wishes or even to provide a focal point for the family like a biotree. We can advise you on your options. Cremation entails the buying of a casket or coffin for the mortal remains, then being exclusively reduced to ashes by a cremator. The ashes are placed into an urn for the family to take care of.

CASKET, COFFIN or URN

Thom Kight & Company offers a wide selection of casket, coffins and urns for either a burial or cremation; from traditional to beautifully crafted designs made out of wood or composite materials as well as eco-friendly options.

EMBALMING

We also embalm and prepare the deceased for repatriation according to strict international standards.

YOUR MEANINGFUL CHOICES

The Ceremony

There are options available to create a meaningful ceremony reflecting the life that has passed and for those ones left behind.

IT IS YOUR CHOICE

You know best what type of ceremony is appropriate - religious, traditional or otherwise - and who should conduct and lead it.

VENUE

Choosing the most suitable location is important - from a chapel to church, home or the crematorium. Depending on your choice you may need a separate location for a gathering after the funeral.

CASKET PALLBEARERS

The function of pallbearers are normally undertaken by family and close friends. You will need 4-6 of them all of whom must be physically and emotionally ready for the task.

DECOR AND SETUP

Apart from traditional flowers, you may like to display personalised items, photographs and candles or even play a video.

KEEPING MEMORIES ALIVE

You have a choice of recording or video streaming the funeral service. Or opt for a photographer. In this way viewing and sharing with people from further localities are also able to participate and keep memories.

PROGRAMME OF SERVICES

The order of service can be outlined in a booklet for family and all guests to remember. We can assist you putting it together.

AUDIO/MUSIC

We will arrange for your choice of music to be performed. We have a relevant list of music for you to select from. It is up to you if you prefer recorded or live music, performed by a choir, solo singer or just instrumental.

MEMORIAL BOOK

To create a very special memory you can provide a memorial book for all guests to reflect their thoughts and condolences.

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES

If you wish to perform any additional tribute for your loved one, we can help and organise it for you. From dove, lanterns and balloon release to any other symbolic tribute you have in mind.

The Chapel of Rest at our premises in Vrededorp, Johannesburg can accommodate up to 100 people and can be adapted for any type of service. It has an organ as well as equipment for multimedia presentations. Safe parking is available.

HOW WE WORK

Managing the Practicalities and Paperwork

Where we can, we arrange all the required documents for you, including:

1

NOTIFICATION OF DEATH

Obtaining a Notification of Death (BI-1663) from the relevant authorities.

2

DEATH CERTIFICATE

Obtaining the death certificate from the Department of Home Affairs.

3

BURIAL OR CREMATION

Obtaining the required documentation for burial or cremation.

We strictly adhere to the COVID-19 Regulations applicable in each country.

For religious rights, in case of Judaism or Muslim if being shipped to certain countries, the State Health Department issues documentation to exclude embalming.

For international repatriation, we liaise with the relevant embassy or consulate as well as with the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) to obtain the necessary permits.
